GoodFellas

Goodfellas was released in 1990 and was directed by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas is a film adaptation of the 1986 non-fiction book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese. The film tells the story of  the rise and fall of mob associate Henry Hill and his friends.The film shows the attraction of the life style, and then it starts to pull away, and Henry begins to pay for it.Goodfellas was made on a budget of $25 million, the film grossed $46.8 million domestically. Goodfellas also received positive reviews from critics and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The movie starts with narration from Henry Hill the main character. He says”As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster. To me, being a gangster was better than being President of the United States.The film includes techniques like extensive narration, quick edits, freeze frames, and multiple locale switches.

The ”Goodfellas” cast did not meet Henry Hill during the film’s shoot. However Henry Hill did see the movie, and he was ecstatic – it was very cathartic for him.” He adds, ”Henry was cleaned up, and there was a sweetness about him, a really nice quality.   1. I find it very interesting that this film is based on a true story, and I think that is what makes it so great. The relationships between the characters are real, and the narration by Henry makes us feel like we’re sitting down listing to someone telling us their life story. I really enjoyed watching this movie even though I’m generally not a gangster film fan.
